A converted 1999 Boxster is up for sale. I remember reading about this guy a few years ago when he completed it in 2012.
Instead of a flat six, you get a higher-torque 9" DC Motor. Top speed is north of 70mph and it gets 80-100 miles of range out of the 20kWh battery pack. It’s a 986 E, if you will.....
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The catch is that it has been sitting for approx two years, so it needs a little TLC to become a daily again. Below is a link to the blog that details the build, and a data sheet he put together.

Watcha think Oppos??? Below is a pic of the factory Boxster E prototype while you ponder how much it would cost to replace the batteries.

Probably a fair price if it’s a clean build but totally dependent on cost of new batteries. Would I ever buy it? Nope.

Np if you’re comfortable with batteries; assuming those are automotive grade similar to what’s in a Prius and not more than 10 years old, they should be okay.
I’d buy it if I had room, cause where else are you gonna find an all-electric Porsche?

Technically its still mid-engined. Or, mid-motor I should say.
And since it’s in Jersey, going over 45 mph is a rarity anyway....less weight, less CO, and more torques is good around town and in traffic.

With more/better batteries added it would be a hit. No reason you can’t source a Tesla battery pack and throw it in there.

Since he started the project in 2011, I’ll assume the batteries are about 5 years old, and have not been charged in two years.
From the blog, they are Sinopoly 180Ah Lithium batteries (34 wired in series @ 3.2V each).

Would first want to know why after all the work and money it was sitting unused for two years. Not as much fun to drive as he first thought? Gremlins in the electrical system? Some “deferred” maintenance still needed? Rare that anyone has that many cars that they don’t get around to driving any one car in two years (except maybe former talk show hosts).

It says in the ad he was away at school, but no word on why it wasn’t driven during summer or other school breaks.

This thing will be slow... that Warp 9 motor only makes around 70HP. And those motors are DC motors with brushes that need replacing from time to time.
At least it has Lithium batteries.
